Michelin Introduces Airless Golf Cart Tire

Polyurethane innovation alert! Michelin Tweel Technologies announced the release of the X Tweel Turf, which is a completely airless tire that works with gas- and electric-powered golf carts.

This polyurethane tire is a great solution for vehicles often used in rugged surface conditions since drivers won’t have to worry about the tires becoming flat or losing pressure. It’s reported that the X Tweel Turf can support a load up to 705 pounds due to its high-strength poly-resin spokes that help distribute the weight.

BMW Honors Huntsman’s Polyurethanes Division with Supplier Innovation Award

The BMW Group awarded the Supplier Innovation Award to global chemical company, Huntsman, for developing a new polyurethane foam technology.

With chemical expertise and a drive for innovation, the Huntsman team created this unique, low emission, flexible foam for automotive seats that reduces emissions by a factor of ten without compromising comfort or quality. Huntsman is the only supplier to meet BMW’s ambitious emissions requirements for foams used in BMW vehicles. Now that’s incredible!

Clear the streets – a new generation of vehicles will take over the road! This year, motor company Yamaha introduced its newest model of transportation: The 05GEN. What makes this “wearable mobility” function? Polyurethane.

The 05GEN is specially designed for comfort and convenience. Its three-wheeled design uses Elastollan, a thermoplastic polyurethane, as well as Infinergy, the world’s first expanded thermoplastic polyurethane. Elastollan enables Yamaha to use a variety of texture and colors on the 05GEN exterior, while Infinergy gives the tires more control for a smoother ride.

Polyurethane Revs It Up

Polyurethane is transforming the elite ranks of the automotive industry. To improve the production and performance of Aston Martin’s high-end vehicles, Aston Martin has partnered with Dow Automotive Systems (DAS). With this technical partnership, more DAS polyurethane products will be used in Aston Martin production models and racing cars.

DAS has supplied Aston Martin with polyurethane structural adhesives. Polyurethane adhesives provide extra strong bondability in joining materials. They implemented this polyurethane technology on the new Aston Martin DB11, producing an automotive part with long-term durability, improved crash performance and other benefits.

Novomer’s Innovative Technology

Innovative. That’s the best word that describes Novomer and the Ford Motor Company. Ford teamed up with many companies, including Novomer, to find new applications for captured carbon dioxide (CO2) to reduce carbon emissions. Ford aims to help reduce global warming by using this greenhouse gas in innovative ways. Ford expects to be the first automaker to use foams and plastics containing captured CO2in seating and hood applications.  The new materials are expected to be in Ford vehicles by 2018.
