Versatile. Durable. Incredible. Balloons.

Everyone knows that enormous amounts of helium fill Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade balloons each year.

But, do you think about the volume of engineering, science and technology that go into making each balloon?

Did you know that the giant balloons seen by more than 50 million viewers across the world begin as a lump of clay?

The balloons are conceived, manufactured and cared for by 28 full-time studio employees in the Macy’s Parade Studio in Moonachie, New Jersey.

Here’s what happens when an idea becomes a parade balloon:

Giving Thanks for Polyurethane

In the spirit of the season, let’s give thanks for the many ways that polyurethane improves and enhances our lives every day.

Below are some of the unique ways polyurethane enhances our Thanksgiving celebrations:

  • Planning to watch a parade on TV or in person? Did you know that polyurethane is now used to make many of the giant balloons that were originally made of rubber? Today’s balloons benefit from polyurethane’s lightweight and durable properties. Efficient and Affordable Homes: Brought to you by Polyurethane

Bayer’s lightweight polyurethane composite panels hold the promise to help Malaysia offset an affordable housing crisis.

The panels help enable sturdy, energy efficient homes to be built quickly. The material may be able to reduce the cost of construction by 40% due to reduced labor. The home components can be pre-fabricated, resulting in one unit being completed in five days.

The houses will have the added benefit of greater energy efficiency, with polyurethane providing a durable barrier to air and moisture leakage. This efficiency will reduce cost of ownership while improving the environmental impacts of the homes.

Meritage Homes: Upgrading homes with spray polyurethane foam

Meritage Homes uses spray polyurethane foam to seal and insulate homes from outside air and moisture intrusion, save on energy costs, and protect families from mold, airborne pollutants, and allergens.

The spray polyurethane foam insulation used by Meritage Homes creates a thermal envelope—an air barrier that helps to prevent air and moisture infiltration. By minimizing air and moisture infiltration, spray polyurethane foam can help stop the sources of dangerous mold and mildew growth in the home that may cause health programs.

Spray polyurethane foam insulation, and the resulting thermal envelope, also helps to create a more comfortable home that...
