Polyurethane Helps to Make Your Picnic Perfect

Fresh air, delicious food, good times — there’s a lot to love about picnic season. Thanks to polyurethane, you can be picnic-ready for any day. Whether it’s keeping your seats dry or the food you packed fresh, here are a few items to consider adding to your next picnic that can make it more enjoyable for everyone.

Waterproof Picnic Blankets

The perfect picnic starts with the perfect foundation. Companies today are designing blankets that are durable, comfortable, and versatile for any occasion — all while using polyurethane. The waterproof feature is what makes these blankets ideal for any picnic day. Manufacturers are using leakproof and water-repellent polyurethane lining to coat blankets, keeping you and your things dry from damp grass or spilled drinks.

Protecting Your Picnic Table

Although many picnics take place in an open field and on a blanket, you’ll be happy to know that polyurethane can also make a difference if you choose to use a picnic table. Outdoor elements such as rain or overexposure to sunlight can decay the tops of wooden tables, but clear sealants help keep your table in good shape.

An exterior polyurethane finish creates a smooth protective barrier and prevents weather conditions from damaging the original material. Such finishes also can prevent discoloration from any picnic mishaps, such as spilled wine or splattered condiments, that could cause stains. A good-quality sealant will hold up from three to five years and can easily be reapplied.

Keeping Your Food Fresh

Lastly, what’s a picnic without food and drinks? Polyurethane in coolers and thermoses provides an effective form of insulation for both warm and cold dishes and beverages. Because polyurethane foam is dense and contains very small air bubbles, less heat transfers between outside and inside, keeping your food and drinks cooler or hotter longer.

The manufacturing process involves the foam being pressure-injected into the frame of the cooler where it then fills air gaps completely and sets hard — adding extra strength to the cooler itself. The walls of these coolers can be anywhere from 2 to 3 inches thick and include about 3 inches of insulation on the lid.

Make Your Picnic Perfect

Thanks to these polyurethane-based materials, you’ll never have to worry about postponing your picnic. Now, you can sit back, relax, and enjoy the great outdoors. As polyurethane continues to grow in popularity, we can expect to see more applications that make our everyday activities easier and more enjoyable.
